FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Kiosk Library.

General

Is Kiosk free?

Yes. Kiosk has a fully functional free version with all core features. The free tier gives you unlimited sources with up to 5,000 files each, all four DCC plugins, and 5 Poly Haven downloads per day. The Pro license lifts file limits and unlocks custom categories, Extensions, and more.

Does Kiosk require an internet connection?

Not for everyday use. Kiosk runs locally — your files stay on your machine and are never uploaded anywhere. The only network activity is a one-time license activation (Pro) and optional update checks.

What file formats does Kiosk support?

Any file format. You define which extensions each category includes. Common formats: .fbx, .obj, .blend, .c4d, .ma, .hip, .png, .jpg, .exr, .hdr, .vdb, and many more.

Is Kiosk available on macOS or Linux?

Currently Kiosk is Windows only (Windows 10/11).

Licensing

What’s the difference between Free and Pro?

Free gives you unlimited sources with up to 5,000 files per source, 3 built-in categories (Assets, Textures, HDRI), all four DCC plugins, default command stacks, OpenPBR detection, custom tags, and 5 Poly Haven downloads per day.

Pro lifts the files-per-source cap, adds custom categories, custom Python command scripts, the headless Scripting API, multiple databases, the Extensions add-on system, the shared / network library, and unlimited Poly Haven downloads. Studio has the exact same features as Pro but covers 3 seats instead of 1 — “Pro for teams.”

Is Pro a subscription?

No. One-time purchase, lifetime license, all future updates included.

Can I use one license on multiple machines?

A Pro license is valid for one user. You can deactivate and reactivate to move between machines. For teams, see the Studio license.

Plugins

Do all plugins come with the free version?

Yes. All four DCC plugins (Blender, Cinema 4D, Maya, Houdini) are included in both Free and Pro.

Can I use multiple plugins at once?

Yes. Kiosk can have live sessions with multiple DCC apps simultaneously.

How do plugins communicate with Kiosk?

Through a watch folder on your local machine. Kiosk writes command files to a shared folder, and the DCC plugin picks them up and executes them. No internet, no ports to configure.

Troubleshooting

Kiosk doesn’t detect my files

  • Check that your file extensions match the category settings.
  • Make sure the source directory path is accessible.
  • Try refreshing the source via App Menu → Update Database.

The plugin can’t connect to Kiosk

  • Make sure Kiosk is running on the same machine.
  • Launch Kiosk from within the DCC plugin panel — this establishes the watch folder connection.
  • Restart both Kiosk and the DCC application if the green dot doesn’t appear.

Thumbnails aren’t generating

  • Image and video thumbnails generate automatically. Refresh the source if they don’t appear.
  • For 3D files, use Thumbnail → Generate 3D Thumbnail from the right-click menu.
  • Kiosk marks failed thumbnails to avoid retrying — check the Debug File Info for status.
